Parent Engagement Month School Video Contest Winner Bernd Elementary School was one of three schools in Georgia to win the Georgia Department of Education's Parent Engagement Video Contest on Facebook. The District Title I Family Engagement Team produced the video with students Harrison Munoz, Azaley Person, and Savonta Luke. A school representative will represent the school at the Family Engagement Conference in Athens, GA in February to present the video. GaDOE Georgia Family Friendly Award Finalist The Georgia Department of Education named Heard Elementary School as a Georgia Family Friendly Partnership School Award Finalist. This means the school meets criteria for the award in four areas: physical environment, personal contact, school practices and policies. District Spelling Bee Winners The Bibb County Spelling Bee was held on January 16, 2016 at Central High School and sponsored by the Bibb Association of Educators. The District champion is Landon Juang of Howard Middle School. He will complete at the regional spelling bee in February. The runner-up is Paige Riser from Rutland Middle School.No recorded vote.

Mrs. Sipe, chair of the Nominating Committee, presented a slate of candidates for Board officers prepared by the Nominating Committee in accordance in Board Policy BBAA - Board officer Method of Election. Members of the Nominating Committee consisted of Mrs. Sipe, chair, Dr. Dillard, and Dr. West. The candidates for the office of President were Mr. Miller and Mr. Morton. The candidate for the office of Vice President was Mr. Downey and the candidates for the office of Treasurer were Mrs. Carter and Mr. Morton. At the conclusion of the report, Mrs. Sipe turned it over to Dr. Dillard for the election of officers. For the office of President, Mr. Morton declined the nomination and there were no other candidates nominated from the floor. Mr. Miller was elected President with a vote of 5-2-1. Mr. Hudson and Dr. West vote no, and Mrs. Carter abstained. For the office of Vice President, there were no other candidates nominated from the floor. Mr. Downey was elected Vice President with a vote of 6-1-1. Mr. Hudson voted no and Mrs. Carter abstained. For the office of Treasurer, Mrs. Carter declined the nomination. Nominations from the floor were accepted for the office of Treasurer. Mrs. Carter nominated Mr. Hudson and Mr. Miller nominated Dr. Dillard. Dr. Dillard could not be considered for the office because she served on the Nominating Committee. Mr. Morton was elected Treasurer after obtaining a majority with 6 votes.No recorded vote.
