Dr. Smith provided his recommendations for the Five-Year Facility Plan: Consolidate Barden ES and Morgan ES, build on the Morgan Elementary School site. Consolidate Burghard ES and Rice ES into current Bloomfield Middle School site. Convert Bloomfield MS to an elementary school. Jason Daniel, Director of Capital Improvement Program gave a update of the Five-Year Facility Plan: A new elementary school (New Elementary #2) will be built on the King-Danforth site to consolidate King-Danforth and Jones Elementary Schools. A new elementary school (New Elementary #3) will be built at the Morgan Elementary site to consolidate Morgan and Barden Elementary Schools. A new elementary school (New Elementary #4) will replace phased out schools in the Bloomfield area (Rice and Burghard). An alternate to New Elementary #4 would be to convert Bloomfield Middle to an elementary school. Under that plan, Bloomfield Middle School and Ballard-Hudson Middle School would be consolidated, and the students would attend Ballard-Hudson Middle School. The decision to build a new school or use Bloomfield Middle can be made at a later date. Eliminate New Elementary #5. The following phased out locations will require upgrades to continue operation: Bernd, Porter and Riley Elementary Schools. This includes improvements to heating and air systems, roof repairs or replacements, and more. Board members also discussed the possibility of placing vacant properties on the surplus list so they may be listed for sale through a realty agency. Properties must officially be declared as surplus by the Board before they may be sold.No recorded vote.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Steven Smith told Board members it is possible students may miss school again this week due to inclement weather and that could affect decisions about make-up days. Dr. Smith recommended waiting to make a decision until the February 27, 2014 Board meeting will also allow time for the State Board of Education to meet this month and rule on make-up requirements after Governor Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency in late January and again this week. Dr. Smith said it is even possible the District may not have to make up any days, depending on the state Board of Education's decision.No recorded vote.
