Dr. Cassandra Washington, CTAE Director, and Mr. Robert Gunner Dewitt, Rutland High Senior Marines Instructor, presented information to the Board for consideration to dedicate the JROTC hall at Rutland High School as the Frank Johnson and Thomas Mosely Leadership Education Department. Frank Johnson and Thomas Mosely, residents of the Macon-Bibb County Community, both were Montford Point Marines. The Montford Point Marines, named for the location of their basic training facility, were a group of African-Americans who were given the opportunity to be recruited by the Marine Corps under a presidential directive in 1942 by President Roosevelt. The Montford Point Marines were presented with Congressional Gold Medals in 2012 for their service to the nation.No recorded vote.
