2018-19 State Schools Superintendent's Parent Advisory Council State Schools Superintendent Richard Woods selects a group of parents each year to serve on his Parent Advisory Council. The members of this group serve as a liaison between their schools, communities and state-level administrators. This year, L.H. Williams Elementary School parent volunteer Sherri English was selected for the Parent Advisory Council. 2018-19 State Schools Superintendent's Student Advisory Council State Schools Superintendent Richard Woods selects students from across the state each year to serve on his Student Advisory Council. The members of this group serve as a liaison between their schools and state-level administrators, and they can help shape policy decisions. This year, the District had three students chosen for this honor: Howard Middle School’s Sofia Ali, Academy for Classical Education’s Ben Trofemuk and Judy Charles of Hutchings College and Career Academy and the Georgia Academy for the Blind. BREA Adopt-a-School Partnership The Bibb Retired Educators Association (BREA) recently held an application process for the group’s Adopt-a-School Partnership Program. Once selected, a school will receive $1,000 a year for three years from BREA, as well as volunteer support from BREA members. This year, two District schools were selected after BREA’s Executive Board decided their applications were both so compelling: Ingram-Pye Elementary and Southfield Elementary. Retired Educators Month Resolution The Bibb County Board of Education and the Bibb County School District presented a resolution to the Bibb Retired Educators Association to recognize the forthcoming Retired Educators Day in November. 2017-18 PBIS Distinguished and Operational Schools District schools have implemented the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports system in cohorts over the last few years. This allows the system’s values and practices to be implemented with fidelity at each school. As these schools achieve certain levels of implementation, they are recognized for their achievements. Several District schools reached the Distinguished level for the 2017-2018 school year: Elam Alexander at Burke and Elam Alexander at Southwest, Rutland High School and Howard Middle School. Elam Alexander’s two sites were the only Georgia Network for Education and Therapeutic Support sites to receive this honor, and Rutland was the only high school in the state to do the same. The District also had several schools deemed Operational status. These schools included Alexander II Magnet School, Ingram-Pye Elementary, Porter Elementary School, Miller Magnet Middle School, Northeast High School, Southwest High School and Westside High School.No recorded vote.
