What does the school board do?

The Bibb County Board of Education is eight people you elect — one from each of six districts, plus two at-large seats that represent the whole county. They don’t run the schools day to day; they hire the superintendent who does, set the rules (policies) the district follows, and approve how its money is spent.

Almost all of that happens through votes at public meetings — the budget, the school calendar, new policies, hiring and firing, even closing or repurposing buildings. Open any meeting to see each item explained in a sentence, plus how every member voted. A No vote (a dissent) is flagged in red; “unanimous” means everyone present agreed.

Why a recent meeting may say “Minutes pending”: a meeting appears here as soon as the district posts its agenda. How each member voted is only on the public record once the district publishes the minutes — lately within about two weeks. PeachTracker checks several times a day and adds the votes when they appear.
